Sophia Mintas

Owner and Founder

Sophia Mintas brings her excitement for music to every interaction with every student. Each lesson is an opportunity for exploration, learning to create music, honing the skills to express oneself through music, and growing and gaining confidence in one’s artistic expression as it relates to life experience. There is music all around us. We just have to learn to feel it inside of ourselves.

Sophia brings years of experience to the Mintas Music Academy. She studied opera with Claudia Pinza at the Ezio Pinza Council for American Singers of Opera (EPCASO) Summer Program in Oderzo, Italy (2011, 2012, 2014,and 2015), and in Feltre, Italy (2016). Sophia completed her Bachelor of Music degree at Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music as a student of Claudia Pinza (2014) and Xiu Ru Liu (2015-2018). In 2017, she traveled to Bologna, Italy to study at the Bologna International Opera Academy and participated in the Fiorenza Cossotto International Voice Competition. After graduation, Sophia studied with Mayda Prado at the Estudio para el Bel Canto Nuestro Circulo: “La Dinastia del Bel Canto” in Cuernavaca and Mexico City. She returned the following year to continue her studies with Mayda Prado at the Centro Morelense de las Artes in Cuernavaca, and later, continued her studies with Mayda Prado in New York City and later with Adriana Valdés. Ms. Mintas has also studied opera with Sharon Chang, Wei En Hsu, and William Barto Jones in New York City through the Metropolitan International Music Festival Summer Institute for Intensive Role Study (SIFIRS). In 2020, she studied with Jennifer Rowley and Abdiel Vasquez at the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia (ISOFOM), as well as, with Genady Mierson’s Eugene Onegin Workshop. She is always happy to bring her experience to your educational journey.

Sophia has performed nationally in Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and New York City and internationally in the cities of Bologna, Fietre, and Oderzo in Italy and in Cuernavaca and at the Palace of fine Arts in Mexico City in Mexico.

In 2011, a woman who heard Sophia vocalizing in the hall of a hotel in L.A., walked in off the street and invited Sophia to perform at the L.A. Mission College Annual Awards Ceremony several days later. Although Sophia couldn’t stay to do this at that time, she returned to Los Angeles the following year to perform 5 opera arias as part of a cultural presentation about the origins of opera for the L.A.
